The ORION Foundation awards annual scholarships to graduating high school seniors who intend to pursue a degree in the arts. The award is given with hope to fuel passions for the arts and aid in further development of creative expression.
According to United States Code (20 U.S.C. 952 b), the term “the arts” includes, but is not limited to, music (instrumental and vocal), dance, drama, folk art, creative writing, architecture and allied fields, painting, sculpture, photography, graphic and craft arts, industrial design, costume and fashion design, motion pictures, television, radio, film, video, tape and sound recording, the arts related to the presentation, performance, execution, and exhibition of such major art forms, all those traditional arts practiced by the diverse peoples of this country.[1] and the study and application of the arts to the human environment.
The one-time scholarships ranges from $1000-$5000. Scholarship recipients must be enrolled as full-time students for current academic year. Enrollment will be verified after the winners are selected, and scholarship payment will be made directly to the college/university to be used towards tuition and education-related expenses. Checks will not be issued without a copy of the recipient’s transcript with grades and a cumulative GPA posted through the last semester of high school. All correspondence must contain the student’s name, address and student's identification number. The recipient must also supply the college/university information for check distribution.

- Applicant must be a high school senior who currently attends a public high school.
- Applicant must be a U.S. citizen.
- Applicant must have a cumulative GPA of at least a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale through the last semester of their high school senior year.
- Applicant must attend an accredited four-year college/university as a full-time student for the upcoming fall semester with intent to pursue a degree in the arts.
- Submit the signed APPLICATION.
- Submit an OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT with grades and cumulative GPA posted through the fall semester of high school senior year. NOTE: If awarded the scholarship, grades and cumulative GPA through last semester of high school will need to be submitted in order for award check to be issued.
- Submit one LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION. The letter of recommendation must be from a teacher, coach, mentor, or supervisor who has direct knowledge and experience of applicant’s participation in the arts.
- Submit a PERSONAL ESSAY. Submit a one-page signed personal essay explaining why entering into a field in the arts is important. Include college and career plans. Be sure to include applicant’s signature on the page.
- Submit a LIST OF ACADEMIC HONORS, LEADERSHIP SKILLS, COMMUNITY SERVICE, AND ARTS ACCOMPLISHMENTS, etc. Be sure to include applicant’s name on the page.

The institution must be an educational organization that normally maintains a regular faculty and curriculum and normally has a regularly enrolled body of pupils or students in attendance at the place where its educational activities are regularly carried on. To the extent the institution is involved in the selection of the recipients (if at all), such involvement must comply with the Foundation’s policy of awarding scholarships on an objective and non-discriminatory basis as well as the Foundation’s Conflict of Interest Policy.
